"I went with the idea of a race, like a line of people...and also, breaking the finish line. This specifically is themed after a race in San Francisco called "Bay to Breakers"...a regular race in theory, but it's famous for people dressing up like freaks and running trashed across the city...in case you were wondering about dude's viking helmet and plastic cup."

"Tea Stain 1" - This work is the first in which I explored tea as a staining element. I also utilized stamping ink, a white out pen, and Chinese funeral paper. The selection of media was limited because it was created in non-studio environment in which I resorted to materials which were immediately available. The resulting image is an improvisation of found materials. I chose spare linear linear elements to contrast them to the saturated orange block and the organic bleed of the tea.

"Photoshop has become a style and tightly rendered work is looking less and less self-expressive, than looser, more expressive work. I chose to do this particular illustration using traditional media such as light markers and stabilos in order to pinpoint my character's struggle for happiness and serenity in a digital cold environment."

"180ronin is heavily inspired by japanese culture, fashion, music, video games, and, our surroundings. With this peiece we wanted to play with positive and negative space but at the same time give it a structured busy look. We enjoy minimalism and crazy complex busy design. That just comes from the styles of the designers so in order to bring it all together and become one, we always come to a compromise and meet each other half way, which allows us to create the designs that we create. 180ronin takes pride in the work we do b/c we do it b/c we love it and not for anything else.
- design is love"

The Project
It started out as a college assignment that I was working on earlier this year. I was given the topic line, and told to create a visual outcome based on it in two months.
My idea for the project was to illustrate and art direct a zine of about 200 pages. Each page would be an image that illustrates line, created by myself, my friends or illustrators, designers, artists, photographers and poets that I come across on the internet that would be willing to take part.
I set out to create my zine, and received much support from numerous internet correspondents.
But after collecting allot of images for the zine, the project came to a stand still for various reason. (I'll spare you the details)
I've since decided to keep the project alive by setting up this blog. Where I will be posting all the artwork that I have created and received. And I will also be accepting new artwork, as well as creating more illustrations.
If you'd like to submit artwork send it to mackoo@hotmail.co.uk
